Kidpower

This past weekend my kids invited friends over. It was very hot and humid, so we spent a lot of time in the water. I mentioned last week that our boat is iffy on the restart -- we're waiting for a part to arrive, which will hopefully remedy the situation. But who can leave a speedboat on shore when the tube is just begging to be ridden by four squirrely kids?

We tubed. And we stopped to switch riders. And we got stranded in the middle of the lake.

Big surprise.

So the kids all jumped in and started pushing the boat under "kidpower." They even passed about 4 houses (still 20 to go) before they climbed back in so we could try the tempermental motor again. They were relieved to hear it start. Our kidpower was running out.

  • :D Great post!

I once had a similar situation, if by similar, you consider we were on the Mackenzie river in the North West Territories at least 30 miles from the nearst town, ended up being stranded over night with all six of us sleeping (when we could) in the boat, having a barge reverse engines to give us gas (mechanical malfunction meant that the engine still ran, but went through gas about 4x as fast as it should have), doing engine repairs with only the tools we had with us, and finally getting rescued by a guy in a speedboat that was moving house from Fort Good Hope to Norman Wells. :D

It was a huge adventure. :D

Oh, and two kids. My niece (12) and my nephew (8 months).

  • Oh my gosh! Unbelieveable! I bet you bring extra gas now.

Oh, and who moves a house with a speedboat?? I'd love to see that.
